Bears Big Decision: Justin Fields or Caleb Williams?
The Bears have one of the most interesting off season decisions to make with either Justin Fields or Caleb Williams. If you were to ask any Bears fan, the fan base is split 50/50 and understandably so. Justin Fields has looked like a different quarterback since coming back from injury and also has 3 games left to prove. The Bears are also still in the playoff picture as well to make a run but seems very unlikely at this point. Lets get into the argument for both sides then I will get into my opinion.
Justin Fields: I think the flash has been there the last couple of games and we saw the same thing from Fields to end the year. Also adding DJ Moore was huge for Fields as he finally got a WR1. The Bears have 2 top 5 picks and could focus on building around Fields through the draft. The Bears could do a couple things with the first pick and the most popular would be trading down. With trading down, it would be 2-3 first round picks and also players. The Bears clearly won the Panthers trade by getting DJ Moore and multiple firsts which could come bac again. I think there are a number of picks the Bears would move off the number 1 pick and keep Justin Fields. The Bears would have 2 top 10 picks, if they move back which could result in Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze and Joe Alt or Olu Fashanu. These 2 would both help the Bears and Fields moving forward.
Caleb Williams: Caleb Williams is one of the best draft prospects we have seen since Andrew Luck came out of Stanford in 2012. Ryan Poles and Matt Eberflus did not draft Fields so if they drafted Williams, it buys them more time with the Bears. The NFL front office is all about job security which would give them more security with a rookie QB. Finically is also an advantage for Williams because having a rookie QB on a team is a cheat code due to not having to pay him for 5 years. That money can be distributed to other players before a team has to pay a QB for $40 million a year on the lower end. The Bears also do not want to miss out on Williams like the Panthers and CJ Stroud this year. Stroud wouldn't have been lighting it up on Panthers but wish they would have drafted Stroud. Say Fields doesn't light it up next year but Caleb Williams does and wins rookie of the year on another year. It would be a clear swing and miss for Poles.
Monstah's Ruling: I think the Bears should draft Caleb Williams. The Bears do not want a Daniel Jones situation this year and to be in the same spot next year. Jones had a good year and sucked to start this year while making $40 million a year for the next 4 years. Giants are in a bad situation moving forward and the Bears do not want to be in that. Getting a rookie QB with a good team is also a cheat code in the NFL. The Seahawks run from 2012-2015 is a clear example of that. The Seahawks paid Russell Wilson $32 million over 4 years which allowed them to pay that stacked and insane defense. Which allowed them to go to Super Bowls and compete in the NFL.
As Always Ya Boy,
