European Teams Coming To The NFL

There are multiple games in Europe this year, it seems like every time I wake on Sunday there is already a game on in Europe. There used to be just 1 or 2 but now there are games in London, Germany, or Mexico City, the NFL is looking to playing games across the world. But the NFL has always been rumored to want a team in London to grow the audience that has been growing rapidly over the last few years. The Jaguars have even got rid of one of their home games every year to play to Europe.

Rodger Goodell has hinted at having 4 teams in Europe because having a division would be easier on travel. “We’re trying to see, could you have multiple locations in Europe where you could have an NFL franchise, because it would be easier as a division,” Goodell stated before the Packers Giants game took place.

Now here are the questions that everyone will ask. Why does there need to be teams in Europe? How will it work if there are multiple teams in Europe? What if a European team wanted to workout a free agent? Will he workout in a United States site or have to fly to Europe? Will the players get paid in Euros or American dollars? How will the expansion draft work? What if players boycotted Europe games? Why not just bring back NFL Europe? Will there been enough fans in Europe to bring in 4 new teams? Will be just be 20 teams in the AFC or NFC? Will there be 4 new teams in the United Stated to balance out the NFL landscape?

There are a lot of questions I did not mention that people have been asking ever since the NFL started international games many years ago. I think the NFL will expanded to European countries but also teams in Canada and Mexico in the future. The NFL looks to expand globally. The NFL will be the first league to put multiple teams in foreign soil since the MLB with the Blue Jays and Expos but currently only have 1 team left in Canada.

Here's why the 4 team division makes sense over just 1 or 2 teams in Europe. If you put an entire division in Europe, that means each team would get to stay in Europe for 11 or 12 of its 17 games. Say the Packers or Giants have to play their division crossover in Europe. They would stay 2 weeks over in Europe and knock out those 2 games then come back to America and play the rest of their games in the United States. I think we are about to have European teams in the NFL in 5 years or less. Just a matter or time, hopefully they have a cool name or uniforms. I cant wait to get a Carson Wentz London Monarchs in 3 years.
