I Feel Bad For Cade McNamara
The quarterback competition up in Ann Arbor between JJ McCarthy and Cade McNamara seems to be over after Michigan's win vs Hawaii past Saturday. Coach Harbaugh decided that both quarterbacks would start a game this season and after both performances they would name a starter. McNamara got the first start against Colorado State where he had 136 yards and 1 tuddy as Michigan won 51-7. McCarthy had the second start against Hawaii where he had 229 yards and 3 tuddys as Michigan won 56-10. During the two different starts JJ McCarthy has proven he is the better of the 2 quarterbacks and Harbaugh has rewarded McCarthy by giving him the start against UConn this week. Harbaugh also compared this quarterback competition to the 2012 49ers quarterback competition between Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. Harbaugh said, “It’s not a matter of somebody losing it but somebody playing better. As I’ve been saying, I think we have two really good quarterbacks. Two starting quarterbacks. A lot like that Monday game that Colin played against the Bears, that looked a lot like what J.J. was able to do tonight.”
Now this is the part where I feel bad for Cade McNamara. McNamara has done everything right for the Wolverines since the day he stepped on campus. He led the Michigan Wolverines to a historic season as they beat Ohio State for first time in 10 years and led the team to their first college football playoff appearance in school history. McNamara was even voted a team captain for the 2022 season by his teammates.
The better man should start for Michigan and I am not saying Cade McNamara or JJ McCarthy should be starting. I am not there at practice everyday or in the meeting rooms examining the two quarterbacks, that's not my job. But for the Michigan fanbase to boo Cade McNamara is honestly insane and not right for the fanbase to do. Michigan was the same team that got embarrassed in 2020 and if it wasn't for Covid, Jim Harbaugh is not coaching there anymore. McNamara brought this team and program back after starting the season unranked in 2021 to a college football playoff appearance. McCarthy is the guy moving forward but do not forget what McNamara did for this team.
